How to speed up your WordPress site to maximum
I decide to write this blog post only few hours ago.
Well, I wasn’t satisfied with the speed of my site and I noticed that my site loading speed is really high. Many people suggested me that earlier, when I was starting my blog but I couldn’t manage to set up everything to its maximum. Only few days ago, I actually figured out that slow speed is taking away all my readers, increasing bounce rate and decreasing pageviews while I’m taking care of some other stuff.
However, when I saw how many of my readers went because of a slow site speed, I was surprised and I decide that I must change something. I used every information that I gather through years building sites and I also type ”How to speed up your WordPress site to maximum” so I can find some new techniques.
I never take it seriously, that site speed may affect a lot of things. Speed of content delivery can impact your business. However, I get to the work immediately. On the start I wanted to check my current speed. I use tool that I found long time ago. It is Pingdom. It gives really accurate results. When I checked my site speed I was shocked. Arround 12 seconds only to load the site. Too high for everyone. Nowadays, people are in rush and they don’t have time even surfing on the Internet.
Why is Site Speed important
First impressions matter. When someone visits your site, what they will notice first? Your design? NO! Your content? NO! Your site speed? YES!
If you disappoint them on the start, they will probably leave very quickly and never return. Even if you have fantastic site, your visitors may not see everything you have to offer because of slow site speed. This is why it is important to learn how to optimize your WordPress site to maximum. But wait to hear this. Not only you will refuse lot of people, you will also decrease ranking of your site despite all your other marketing efforts. Lower rankings=less traffic.
Speed of your WordPress site is one more thing you must done perfectly as addition to great design and epic content!
That is why I’m giving you some really cool but also simple steps on how to speed up your site to maximum.
-Go with something logical
-Decrease the number of plugins installed on your site- More plugins=slower site. People usually say: ”Install at least 5 plugins that will optimize your site speed”. The effect will be the opposite. With installing more plugins you will only slow your site speed. You have to install only basic plugins and please don’t install plugins you don’t want to use. If it isn’t bringing anything new to your site, maybe it is better to delete it. Also, if you have one good caching plugin why to install another one. It won’t speed your site more, it will make it much slower.
As I already recommend some WordPress plugins in one of my other posts, I will only stick now to a plugins for increasing the site speed. You will only need three plugins for doing that.
Best of the best. No other cache plugin can even get near of this one. Easy Web Performance optimization. This plugin does everything and it is designed to improve user experience and page speed.
Very simple plugin that let’s you clean up your WordPress database and optimize it without phpMyAdmin. It has many features like:
- Deleting post revisions.
- Deleting auto draft posts
- Remove all the spam comments
- Remove all unnaproved comments
And many more!
Reduce image file sizes and improve performance. It is optimizing JPEG compression and it converts certain GIF-s to PNG-s.
These are three main plugins for WordPress site for improving the speed and the performance of your site. Other than only installing this three plugins, you will have to cutt of all the other plugins you don’t use.
Pingdom can be very handful tool when you are checking site speed. You can also see what exactly is slowing your site so you can know what you have to change. As I mentioned, my previous site speed was arround 12 seconds and after reducing significant number of plugins and installing these three, I managed to get speed of only 5 seconds. I can speed up my site even more if I make my images smaller and use smaller text fonts, but I don’t want to do that as it will affect my site design.
If any of this advices don’t help you, you must choose another host provider or even a different theme. Now you find out everything on how to speed up your WordPress site to maximum so you can get to work now.
